Our Breads At Market
At Sour Bakery we try not to add much to landfills around the world. So, we choose to place most breads in paper bags (which are compostable!). No amount of wish-cycling will help keep plastics from landfills.
Some items will be in plastic (richer breads that are more delicate, focaccias, etc.)
We do not bring extra plastic bags to market.
We are always more than happy to share our tips on how best to store our loaves so you have the best chance to enjoy what we work so hard on.
Best Ways to Store
If you leave the bread out on the counter, in just the paper bag, it will get crustier and hard. Here are a few ways to keep your bread lovely:
Countertop Method:
Keep it in the paper bag, closing the top of the bag.
place in a plastic bag, or a plastic adjacent reusable bag, Close the top of the bag.
Bread stored this way should last a 5 days to a week. Watch for mold if it is humid.
Fridge/Freezer Method:
Place bread in fridge/freezer safe bag.
can be stored for weeks.
For best eating enjoyment always toast bread after these methods.
We recommend slicing the bread, at least is half, before freezing.
If It Gets Too Crusty
If you left the bread in the paper bag for a few days and it is too hard to cut, or not enjoyable there are a few fixes:
Run the loaf under water until damp. Place in 350F oven for 10 minutes until bread is soft but crusty.
Wrap loaf in a damp towel and microwave for 10 seconds.
Wrap loaf in aluminum foil. Place in 350 degree oven for 15 minutes.
